Measuring Respiration and Heart Rate using Two Acceleration Sensors on a Fully Embedded Platform
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present a novel system which measures the respiration rate using two three-axis accelerometers strapped to the chest and the back of a person. Respiration and heart rate are used as a measurement to determine an athlete’s fitness level during the exercise phase. Common respiration rate measurement methods require devices which are mostly stationary or at least clunky and uncomfortable to wear for an extended period of time. By using techniques such as differential measurement, pre-measurement optimization, adaptive filtering and peak detection we are able to obtain respiration rate even when the athlete is running fast. Our system is low-cost, small, and, by using a digital signal processor, fully capable of processing the data in an online way. Results are compared with a reference spirometer and have shown a very low normalized root mean square error (NRMSE) down to 1.42 %. Additionally, the heart rate of an athlete can be measured with the same sensor setup and similar methods.

Monitoring Sleep with Force Sensor Measurement
This thesis presents methods for comfortable sleep measurement at home. Existing medical sleep measurement systems are costly, disturb sleep quality, and are only suited for short-term measurement. As sleeping problems are affecting about 30% of the population, new approaches for everyday sleep measurement are needed. We present sleep measurement methods that are based on measuring the body wit...
متن کاملP14: Anxiety Control Using Q-Learning
Anxiety disorders are the most common reasons for referring to specialized clinics. If the response to stress changed, anxiety can be greatly controlled. The most obvious effect of stress occurs on circulatory system especially through sweating. the electrical conductivity of skin or in other words Galvanic Skin Response (GSR) which is dependent on stress level is used; beside this parameter pe...
متن کاملA New Scheme for Determination of Respiration Rate in Human Being using MEMS Based Capacitive Pressure Sensor: Simulation Study
In this paper, a MEMS based capacitive nasal sensor system for measuring Respiration Rate (RR) of human being is developed. At first two identical diaphragm based MEMS capacitive nasal sensors are designed and virtually fabricated. A proposed schematic of the system consists of signal conditioning circuitry alongwith the sensors is described here. In order to measure the respiration rate the se...
متن کاملCalibration of an Inertial Accelerometer using Trained Neural Network by Levenberg-Marquardt Algorithm for Vehicle Navigation
The designing of advanced driver assistance systems and autonomous vehicles needs measurement of dynamical variations of vehicle, such as acceleration, velocity and yaw rate. Designed adaptive controllers to control lateral and longitudinal vehicle dynamics are based on the measured variables. Inertial MEMS-based sensors have some benefits including low price and low consumption that make them ...
متن کاملTelemonitoring of patients with Parkinsonâs disease using inertia sensors
Background: Medical treatment in patients suffering from Parkinson’s disease is very difficult as dose-finding is mainly based on selective and subjective impressions by the physician. Objectives: To allow for the objective evaluation of patients’ symptoms required for optimal dosefinding, a telemonitoring system tracks the motion of patients in their surroundings. The system focuses on providi...
